Neandros Protected Area
In the Sea of Marmara, we work towards ensuring the sustainability of future marine life.
As the Marine Life Conservation Society, since 2015, we have aimed to protect the unique biodiversity around the Princes' Islands, reduce the threats it faces, and develop solutions to the challenges posed by traditional fishing practices. To this end, we have advocated for the establishment of a protected area around Neandros (Rabbit) Island.
For the sustainability of future marine life, following our application made under the guidance of expert scientists in the field and in collaboration with all relevant Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and volunteers, Neandros (Tavşan) Island, covering an area of 7,758,603.762 square meters, has been designated a "Strictly Protected Sensitive Area" by the General Directorate of Natural Assets Protection and the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, and subsequently by Presidential Decree No. 3817.
Efforts have begun with the relevant institutions to ensure the best protection of this area.
